August 12, 2013

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Genetics (CIHR-IG) in co-operation with NSC-DOIC and NTHU offers summer program for Canadian graduate students in Taiwan. Awards are provided in the field of health research (i.e. biomedical, clinical, health systems services, social cultural, environmental and population health). A total of up to 10 awards are available for the 2014 Summer Program in Taiwan. Applicants must be pursuing studies in fields that are supported by the mandate of CIHR and that are represented within the potential host institution in Taiwan. The duration of the program is approximately eight weeks, from June to August. Application deadline is 16, 2013.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of Canada can apply for these awards.

Scholarship Description: The Summer Program in Taiwan provides Canadian graduate students (master’s or doctoral level) with first-hand research experience in an international setting. This two-month summer program offers an exciting opportunity to engage in health research (i.e. biomedical, clinical, health systems services, social cultural, environmental and population health) with first-hand research experience in an international setting, while also affording an orientation to Taiwan’s culture and language. This program is co-sponsored by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Genetics (CIHR-IG) and the Department of International Cooperation of the National Science Council (NSC-DOIC) in Taiwan, with the assistance of the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in coordinating the orientation, arranging language courses and in helping participants move to individual universities or research institutes.

Number of award(s): Ten awards are offered.

Duration of award(s): The duration of the program is approximately eight weeks, from June to August. Exact start and end dates vary each year (successful candidates will be informed of the final program schedule). In addition to an orientation session (including an introduction to the language, culture and research systems of the host country) approximately seven weeks are spent working on research activities at the host institution. As a result of the complex institutional arrangements, each award must be completed in its entirety within the defined program dates.
