Admission for Colleges: A Battle Begins


In today’s scenario, applying for college admissions has become easier due to technical advancement at the same time getting admission in college has become harder due to tough competition. Students are struggling to secure the seat for starting their college life. There are number of educational opportunities everywhere, yet taking admission in accredited colleges and universities has become harder since last two decades.

Now people are aware with the importance of the education which has increased the number of high school graduates applying for college and this has resulted in fierce competition for admission to the selective colleges. Education is directly contributing to the economic success of the society. For the same, both colleges and students are making efforts to gain the best from each other, colleges themselves have increased their efforts to attract large applicants for taking admission. Many educational institutions and colleges have started aggressive marketing to spread the information about their offerings nationally and internationally.

Students are taking help of the internet facilities which has made it easy to apply to many of the colleges without going to the college campus. Less probability of getting selected due to increased competition has compelled students to apply for more than one college so that they can have at least a single seat in any of the college. This automatically results in the increase in the pool of applications. Large number of the applications makes the institutions more selective in the admission process because the best colleges judge applicants on merit basis. This causes more difficulties for the average students in taking admission and to beat the admission difficulties and competition. Students work harder and effort more to meet those college admission requirements.

Quota system in the admission process affects the meritorious students in securing their seats in the college on the name of reservation quotas, many seats remain vacant till the last time and at last those seats are offered to the students after paying heavy amount of fees.

Earlier, people were satisfied with a degree or diploma and that was sufficient in getting a good job. But today’s immense competition in getting a good job, forcing the students to be continuous in the process of upgrading education for enriching their academic credentials to achieve better position in their professional life. Now parents are doing their best to get enroll their children into the very best colleges. They are now aware and want the best for their children and they don’t want to take any chance or miss any opportunity of getting a better college.

With high school graduates the numbers of middle aged persons are also increasing as they are getting well aware with the importance of the education and so going back to school for upgrading enriching their educational qualifications. Earlier they hesitate to continue their education or update their skills after a certain age limit. Now with the advancement in technology and higher standards of working motivates the older generation to return to college to learn more, which has somehow made the competition tougher.
